European Youth Parliament (EYP) Greece is a non-profit organization, under the status of a ‘society’ under Greek law that was founded in 1994 in Thessaloniki, Greece. EYP Greece numbers 140 members which come from Northern, as well as Southern and Central Greece.
Every year, EYP Greece organises two 3-Day National Selection Conferences, one in Thessaloniki and one in Athens, which bring together high school-students participants from all over Greece. In particular, EYP Greece invites 3- or 4-member High school teams from all over Northern Greece- Macedonia, Thessaly and Thrace-, as well as from Athens and the surrounding region, to participate in a three day session, where students go through a shortened version of activities, namely of team-building, committee work and general assembly, as delegates in the International Sessions do.
The aim of the three day National Selection Conference, apart from promoting and communicating the goals of EYP to younger students, is to select a group of 30 students that will represent Greece at the EYP Regional Sessions, and among them a group of 8 people that will attend an EYP International Session, again as representatives of their country. In addition to the National Selection Conferences, EYP Greece organises 6-day Regional Sessions (also known as International Fora), which gather participants from all over Greece and Europe. The “Kavala Regional Summer Session” took place in 2008 and gathered 160 EYPers from several European countries. Last summer, the 2nd Regional Summer Session of EYP Greece was held in Naousa in 2010, with more than 100 participants from over 20 European countries.
In the past, EYP Greece has also organized 3 successful International Sessions, 2 in Thessaloniki, in 1989 and 1997 respectively and one in Athens in 2000.
